With just a few hours left for phase-II of the assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, over 25 lakh voters will decide the fate of 239 candidates, including the bigwigs, ministers, and legislators.
Voting for phase II will commence tomorrow at 7 am and end at 6 pm.
This phase will cover 26 assembly constituencies across six districts of Jammu and Kashmir, including Srinagar, where polling will be held in eight segments, including Budgam, and Ganderbal in Kashmir. Reasi, Rajouri, and Poonch will also vote in this phase from Jammu Division.
According to the latest ECI data released in August 2024, there are 25,78,099 lakh voters eligible to vote in this phase; this includes 13,12,730 lakh male voters, 12,65,316 lakh female voters, and 53 third-gender voters.
Approximately 1.21 lakh voters aged between 18 to 19 will cast their first vote in phase II. Among these, 11,294 are male and 10,065 are females.
There are approximately 19,201 specially-abled voters and 20,880 voters who are above the age of 85.
In this phase, 93 candidates in Srinagar district, 46 in Budgam, 34 in Rajouri, 25 in Poonch, 21 in Ganderbal, and 20 candidates in Reasi are vying for these seats.
Reasi district has 2,37,205 registered voters, including 1,24,359 men and 1,12,843 women electors. And three transgender persons across its three Assembly segments.
The ECI has set up 436 polling stations throughout the district.
Meanwhile, Poonch is segregated into three assembly constituencies, with a total of 3,52,330 registered voters that include 1,80,584 males and 1,71,746 females. To facilitate the voting process, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has established 483 polling stations across these constituencies.
Similarly, Rajouri has 4,92,008 electors, which includes 2,25,216 men and 2,35,786 women, and a total of 7 transgender electors. ECI has established 745 polling stations in this particular district.
ECI has established 3502 polling stations with 100 per cent live webcasting across 26 assembly constituencies. These include 1,056 urban and 2,446 rural polling stations for this phase.
Additionally, ECI established 157 special polling booths across 26 segments; this includes 26 pink polling stations all managed by women and 26 PWD polling stations all manned by specially-abled youth.
There are 31 border polling booths, 26 green polling stations, and 22 unique polling stations to facilitate smooth and hassle-free polling.
The results for the phase will be announced alongside phase I and III on October 8.
