Even as 54.05 per cent voter turnout was registered on September 25 for the second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections,  at least 20 out of 26 Assembly segments had fewer voters  compared to the 2014 elections.

 

J&K Chief Electoral Officer PK Pole, while releasing Wednesday’s polling data, said a projected 56.05 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the six districts.

 

Pole said that the data could be revised with the final percentage increasing slightly as polling at certain booths was going on at 6:45 pm on September 25.

 

During the 2014 assembly elections, there were 25 segments in Srinagar, Ganderbal, Budgam, Reasi, Rajouri, and Poonch districts. However, one seat was added to take the number to 26 in these six districts following the delimitation exercise in 2022.

 

On Wednesday, compared to 2014 figures, five assembly constituencies in Srinagar district had a higher turnout while the other 20 segments recorded a lower turnout .

Habbakadal  registered a  21.31 per cent turnout in 2014 compared to  18. 29 per cent now, Charar-e-Sharief recorded 82.44 per cent in 2014 compared to 67.44 per cent this year. Similarly, Budhal recorded 82.50 per cent in 2014 and 68.58 per cent in 2024.

 

Also, though the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Assembly constituency in Reasi district recorded the highest turnout of 79.95 per cent this year it was comparatively less than 82.68 per cent recorded in 2014.

 

According to Pole, the constituency-wise turnout in Jammu division seats was Reasi (71 per cent), Surankote (75.11 per cent), Gulabgarh (73.49 per cent), Nowshera (72 per cent), Kalakote-Sunderbani (68.71 per cent), Poonch-Haveli (74.92 per cent), Rajouri (70.64 per cent), Budhal (68.58 per cent), Mendhar (71.08 per cent) and Thanamandi (69.66 per cent).

 

Similarly, in the Kashmir valley seats, the turnout in Budgam was (51.13 per cent), Chadoora (55.25 per cent), Khansahib (71.66 per cent), Kangan (71.89 per cent), Chrar-e-Sharief (67.44 per cent), Ganderbal (56.97 per cent), Beerwah (63.31 per cent), Hazratbal (30.69 per cent), Khanyar (26.07 per cent), Habbakadal (18.39 per cent), Lal Chowk (32.11 per cent), Channapora (29.35 per cent), Zadibal (30.73 per cent), Central Shalteng (31.07 per cent) and Eidgah (36.93 per cent).
