After the successful conclusion of phase II of the J&K Assembly elections, which took place after a decade, LG Manoj Sinha congratulated the voters for participating in the democratic exercise and for registering a high voter turnout.
Election Commission of India (ECI) officials too were all praise for the smooth polling process.
Sinha, in his social media handle, said he “applauded the spirit of the people” in strengthening the basic democratic structure and upholding democratic principles.
“I would like to congratulate voters of Reasi, Poonch, Rajouri, Ganderbal, Budgam, and Srinagar for turning out in large numbers to exercise their franchise. I applaud the spirit of the people to strengthen the democratic values and to uphold our rich democratic traditions.
“Record voter turnout is a shining example of vibrant and progressive democracy. I also appreciate the remarkable contribution of the election officials, JKP, and security forces for smooth, free, fair, and peaceful polling in 26 Assembly Constituencies in Phase 2,” Sinha said.
Phase II concluded with 54.11 per cent total turnout recorded in these six districts of both sides of the Pir Panjal region, which has surpassed the turnout witnessed in Lok Sabha elections held in 2024.
The Election Commission of India too said the voter turnout was “impressive.”
A statement from the Chief Election Officer Rajiv Kumar, along with EC’s Gyanesh Kumar and Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu said, “The first phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls had also witnessed an impressive turnout of 61.38 per cent at Polling Station across 24 constituencies.”
During a media interaction at Nirvachan Sadan, Rajiv Kumar said these elections were history in the making," the echoes of which will be carried through posterity.
He said that the valleys and the mountains, which had once witnessed fear and boycott (of democratic processes) were now taking part in the democratic festivities, or “Jashn-e-Jamhuriyat”.
