Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge briefly fell ill during a public rally in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Sunday, causing momentary concern among party leaders.
The incident occurred while he was paying tribute to a head constable killed in an ongoing anti-terror operation in the region.
Kharge, 81, experienced dizziness while addressing the rally in the Jasrota belt. "He was delivering his speech when he felt uneasy and dizzy. His colleagues quickly helped him to a chair," Congress general secretary Ghulam Ahmed Mir SAID.
He added that Kharge’s condition is now stable, and doctors are attending to him.
The Congress leader had travelled to Kathua to drum up support for the party’s candidates in the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. He was scheduled to address another rally in Ramnagar, Udhampur district.
Jammu and Kashmir Congress vice-president Ravindra Sharma stated that Kharge was moved to a room after feeling unwell, where doctors conducted a check-up.
“Doctors are monitoring him, and they will decide whether he can attend the second rally,” Sharma said.
