Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to exercise their right to vote as the second phase of the Assembly elections in the Union Territory (UT) began.
In his post on X, Modi stated, "I appeal to all voters to cast their votes and play a crucial role in strengthening democracy."
He also extended his greetings to the first-time voters participating in the election.
Alongside Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also encouraged voters in Jammu and Kashmir to turn out in large numbers for the second phase of the elections.
"I appeal to all voters heading to the polls in the second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir election to vote in maximum numbers for the creation of a terror-free and developed Jammu and Kashmir," Shah posted on X.
Voting commenced on Wednesday for the second phase of the Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir, with over 2.5 million voters set to decide the fate of 239 candidates contesting for 26 seats, including former chief minister Omar Abdullah.
The 26 constituencies are spread across six districts—three in the Kashmir Valley and three in the Jammu division.
