Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has promised to honour the state's tribal legacy by naming the state's highest civilian award the "Bhagwan Birsa Munda-Bhagwan Sido Kanho" Award.
"The name of Jharkhand's highest award will be 'Bhagwan Birsa Munda-Bhagwan Sido Kanho Award'. This will be the first decision of the first cabinet of the 'Abua government' (own government). May the brave martyrs of Jharkhand remain immortal. Jai Jharkhand," the CM posted on X.
He indicated that if the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led government wins the upcoming Assembly elections, a formal decision on this issue will be made at the first cabinet meeting.
The proposed award name honours two historic heroes in India's freedom struggle: Birsa Munda, often regarded as "Bhagwan" for his leadership in the tribal uprising, and the legendary Sido and Kanho Murmu brothers, who led the Santhal fight against British rule.
Speaking at a public rally in Karkatdih, Mahagama, the Jharkhand Chief Minister also criticised the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Soren claimed that the BJP's 'Mati, Beti, and Roti' slogan was intended to mislead people for political gain. He stated that the BJP's slogan aimed to destabilise the state's existing peace and tranquillity and was a deceptive attempt to incite conflict.
Soren advised voters to support the INDIA Bloc to ensure the ruling coalition's sweeping victory.
He accused the BJP of conspiring to destabilise the state and undermine its unity over the last year.
Soren praised the state's togetherness and communal harmony, stating that Jharkhand's people celebrate festivals together regardless of faith, and urged them to vote for the INDIA Bloc to maintain this spirit.
Soren expressed optimism that the INDIA Bloc will secure a majority in the upcoming state elections while listing his government's accomplishments, such as loan waivers for farmers, free electricity for up to 200 units, the Abua Awas Yojana (housing scheme), and the Maiya Samman Yojana for women, which provides beneficiaries with Rs 1,000 per month, with the amount set to increase to Rs 2,500 starting in December.
