Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Delhi-Dehradun economic corridor on Tuesday, a major infrastructure project expected to significantly cut travel time between the two cities and boost regional connectivity.

The 213-km-long, six-lane access-controlled expressway, built at a cost of over ₹12,000 crore, will reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from over six hours to around two-and-a-half hours, according to an official statement.

The corridor passes through Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and is expected to enhance connectivity between key tourism and economic centres.

During his visit on April 14, Modi will travel to Saharanpur to review the wildlife corridor along the elevated stretch of the expressway, before heading to Dehradun where he will inaugurate the project and address a public gathering.

He is also scheduled to offer prayers at the Maa Daat Kali Temple.

Officials said the project reflects the government’s focus on next-generation infrastructure, combining high-speed connectivity with environmental safeguards.

The corridor features a 12-km-long elevated wildlife corridor, among the longest in Asia, along with eight animal passes, two 200-metre-long elephant underpasses, and a 370-metre tunnel near the temple to minimise human-wildlife conflict.

It also includes 10 interchanges, three railway overbridges, four major bridges and 12 wayside amenities to facilitate seamless travel.

An Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) has been integrated into the corridor to improve safety and efficiency for commuters.

Authorities said the project is expected to open new avenues for trade, tourism and economic development across the region.
