Two days after 16-year-old Class 10 student Shourya Patil of St Columba’s School died by suicide by jumping from the platform of an elevated Metro station, the school administration has suspended the headmaster for Classes 5–10 and three teachers who were named in the First Information Report filed by the teenager’s father.

Shourya took the extreme step on Tuesday and left behind a suicide note explicitly blaming his teachers. In the note, he wrote in Hindi: “Sorry mummy, aapka itni bar dil toda, ab last bar todunga. School ki teachers ab hai hi aise, kya bolu” (Translation: “Sorry mummy, I broke your heart many times and I am doing it for the last time. This is how the teachers in the school are, what do I say?”).

On Wednesday, the boy’s father, Pradeep Patil, lodged an FIR accusing the following staff members of mentally harassing his son: Aparajita Pal (Headmaster, Classes 5–10), Julie Varghese, Manu Kalra, and Yukti Aggarwal Mahajan.

In response, the school’s Principal, Robert Fernandes, issued identical suspension letters to all four individuals, placing them under suspension with immediate effect until the completion of the investigation.

The letters stated: “This is to inform you that the school has been made aware of an FIR registered against you, bearing No. 336A Tis Hazari Court, dated 19th November 2025... In view of the seriousness of the allegations, the competent authority has decided to place you under suspension with immediate effect.

You shall remain under suspension till the completion of the investigation and further orders from the competent authority. During the period of suspension, you are required to remain available for any official communication or inquiry, and you must not visit the school premises or interact with students, staff, or parents without prior written permission from the administration.”

The suspended staff members have been directed to cooperate fully with any ongoing inquiry and are barred from entering the school or contacting students, staff, or parents without explicit written permission from the administration.
