India and the United Arab Emirates moved a step closer to deepening their strategic and economic ties as Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held discussions with Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi, on Friday. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in artificial intelligence, energy security and long-term investment opportunities in infrastructure.
The conversation, described by both sides as forward-looking, highlighted the increasing depth of the bilateral partnership. In a post on X, Sheikh Tahnoon wrote, “I met His Excellency Piyush Goyal, India's Minister of Commerce and Industry, where we discussed the latest economic and technological trends and the role of AI in enhancing productivity and driving growth, along with opportunities in infrastructure investment and energy security. We reaffirmed our shared commitment to strengthening UAE-India partnerships through innovation, infrastructure investment, and strategic collaboration in key sectors.”
Goyal, in his response on X, underlined the scope for expanding collaboration across critical areas. “It was an honour to meet you, Your Highness. There are immense avenues for our nations to collaborate across strategic sectors, including AI, energy security, and infrastructure. Looking forward to building on these opportunities, strengthening investment ties, and further deepening the India-UAE partnership,” he wrote.
The dialogue comes against the backdrop of robust trade and investment flows between the two nations, with the UAE emerging as one of India’s most significant economic partners in West Asia. Both governments have prioritised innovation-led growth as a foundation for their future engagement.
On Thursday, Goyal also paid a visit to the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi, which opened earlier this year. Calling it “a landmark of spiritual grace and architectural excellence”, he said it stood as “a proud testament to India-UAE cultural partnership, celebrating shared values of peace and heritage.” The Minister also met Swami Brahmaviharidas, head of the temple.
