An Air India Express passenger, who was meant to disembark at Delhi airport, unintentionally remained on the aircraft and continued his journey to Bhubaneswar. The incident, which took place on Wednesday, has prompted the airline to launch an internal investigation to identify and address any procedural lapses.

According to a source familiar with the matter, the male passenger was on a flight from Srinagar to Delhi. Instead of leaving the aircraft in Delhi, he stayed on board as the same plane then proceeded to operate a flight to Bhubaneswar. The error was only discovered after the passenger himself informed the crew. Specific details about the passenger and the aircraft were not immediately available.

In an official statement released on Thursday, Air India Express confirmed the event, noting that "a passenger transiting through Delhi on another flight inadvertently continued on the aircraft onward to Bhubaneswar."

The airline emphasised that an internal investigation is underway "to identify and address any lapses, while reiterating SOPs and internal briefings across stations to prevent recurrence."

Typically, airline staff at transit airports are responsible for checking the boarding passes and baggage of passengers on connecting flights as part of their Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The airline's statement suggests that these procedures may not have been followed correctly, leading to the passenger's unintended travel to a different city.
