An all-women security team will be deployed for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s event in Navsari, Gujarat, on Saturday, March 08 on the occassion of International Women’s Day.
According to Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, the security cover, comprising officers and constables exclusively from the state police force, will be the first of its kind in the country.
Speaking about the initiative, Sanghavi said, “The Gujarat police is taking a unique initiative on the occasion of International Women's Day. For the first time in the history of India, only women police will handle the entire security arrangement of the PM's event – right from his arrival at the helipad at Vansi Borsi village in Navsari till the event venue.”
The prime minister is scheduled for a two-day visit to Gujarat and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, during which he will address the ‘Lakhpati Didi Sammelan’ at Vansi Borsi village on 8 March.
The security team will consist of over 2,100 women constables, alongside 187 sub-inspectors, 61 police inspectors, 16 deputy superintendents of police, five superintendents of police, one Inspector General of Police, and an Additional Director General of Police.

Senior IPS officer and Home Secretary Nipuna Torawane will oversee the arrangements.
Sanghavi emphasised that the initiative was a powerful statement on Women’s Day, underscoring the significant role of women in ensuring Gujarat’s safety.
“This initiative will give a strong message to the world on Women's Day and it will also convey how women are playing an important role in making Gujarat a safe and secure state,” he added.
Earlier, PM Narendra Modi had announced that he will hand over his official social media accounts to inspirational women for a day, an initiative to mark International Women’s Day.
The initiative was unveiled during the 119th episode of his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat.
During his address, Modi pointed to the vital contributions of women across diverse fields, affirming that “all forms of knowledge reflect the many facets of feminine strength.”
Citing Hansa Mehta, an eminent figure in the drafting of the Indian Constitution, he reiterated the importance of acknowledging and uplifting women in society.
International Women’s Day and its significance
International Women’s Day, observed annually on 8 March, is a global occasion to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It also serves as a call to action for accelerating gender equality and women’s empowerment worldwide.
The initiative launched by PM Modi is in line with these objectives, offering a unique platform to highlight the contributions of women in shaping India’s progress.
