BSF destroyed 118 Pak posts, surveillance setup: Amit Shah

Shah detailed the events of the night of May 7, when the Indian Armed Forces launched a strategic operation targeting terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

News Arena Network - Poonch - UPDATED: May 30, 2025, 06:48 PM - 2 min read

Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Poonch on Friday to meet families affected by the recent Pakistani shelling and distributed appointment letters to the next of kin of civilians killed during the attacks.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday revealed that more than 118 Pakistani forward posts and their surveillance infrastructure were completely destroyed by the Border Security Force (BSF) during Operation Sindoor, marking a significant strategic blow to Pakistan. Shah was speaking at the conclusion of his two-day visit to the Jammu region, where he reviewed the overall security situation, preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, and met with victims of cross-border shelling.

Commending the BSF’s swift and decisive action during the four-day conflict earlier this month, Shah described the damage inflicted as a “remarkable achievement.” He underscored the importance of the operation, stating that dismantling such an extensive surveillance system would severely impair Pakistan’s border capabilities.

"During Operation Sindoor, the BSF destroyed more than 118 Pakistani posts," Shah said. "When Pakistan responded to our anti-terror operations by attacking our borders and civilian areas, it was the BSF jawans of the Jammu Frontier who retaliated by destroying and damaging over 118 posts."

He added that the destruction of the enemy's surveillance system would delay Pakistan's capacity to reestablish communication and monitoring networks by at least four to five years. “They dismantled the enemy's entire surveillance system piece by piece — a system that will take them four to five years to rebuild.”

Quoting information shared by the BSF Director General, Shah said that Pakistan had suffered its most severe loss in terms of communication systems and surveillance equipment, leaving them “incapable of waging a full-fledged information-based war for quite some time.”

Praising the preparedness and intelligence capabilities of the BSF, Shah highlighted how actionable information enabled precision countermeasures. “This proves that even during peacetime, you kept a vigilant eye... Based on your accurate intelligence, a precise counter-strategy was prepared well in advance. When the opportunity arose, you implemented it with success.”

He further attributed the BSF’s success to their patriotism and sense of national duty. “Such bravery only emerges when there is pride in the nation, a sense of patriotism in the heart, and a passion for supreme sacrifice. That is when such outcomes are possible.” Shah emphasised that the BSF continues to serve as India's first line of defence, operating tirelessly across a variety of terrains — deserts, mountains, forests, and rugged landscapes.

He acknowledged the risks BSF jawans face daily, particularly during unprovoked attacks. “Whenever there is any kind of attack on India's borders — organised or unorganised, covert or overt — the first to bear the brunt are our BSF jawans. But they never pause to consider where the boundary lies.”

Reflecting on his visit to Poonch despite inclement weather conditions, Shah explained his resolve to meet the troops in person. “I came to Poonch to visit and share the grief of the damage done to gurudwaras, temples, mosques, and civilian populations. I was told the weather was not favourable. Still, I decided that I would go by road and return only after meeting the jawans posted at the border. God was gracious. The weather cleared up, and I had the opportunity to meet you,” he told the personnel.

On behalf of the government and citizens, Shah expressed deep gratitude to the BSF, noting that the respect and admiration they receive is as strong as that for the Indian Army. “The cheer for BSF is as loud as for the Army, and that is a matter of great pride for all of us,” he said. He concluded by affirming that the courage and sacrifices of BSF personnel stand as a powerful symbol of India’s unwavering resolve to protect its sovereignty.
