Anmol Bishnoi, one of India's most wanted criminal fugitives and the younger brother of incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, arrived in Delhi on Wednesday after being deported from the United States. He is currently being escorted by a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to the Patiala House Court in the national capital.
His deportation from the United States took place on November 18, representing a significant breakthrough for multiple Indian investigating agencies that have been pursuing him in connection with several high-profile criminal cases.
The first visual of Anmol Bishnoi in NIA custody was shared by news agency ANI on X (formerly Twitter), showing him from behind, walking in the middle while being firmly held by two officials of the anti-terror agency NIA.
Anmol Bishnoi is currently facing at least 18 criminal cases registered against him in India. These include charges of criminal conspiracy in the murder of former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique, direct involvement in the killing of popular Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022, and the firing incident outside the residence of Bollywood actor Salman Khan, along with numerous other serious offences.
‘Government should ensure his safety’
Ramesh Bishnoi, cousin of Anmol Bishnoi (who is currently in the custody of Indian authorities after being extradited from the United States) appealed to the Central Government to guarantee the safety of Anmol Bishnoi upon his arrival and during his custody in India.
Speaking to mediapersons, Ramesh Bishnoi stated that Anmol is facing legal action solely because he is the younger brother of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
His exact words were, “The law will take its course. Our family respects the law and we are law-abiding people, but today our main concern is that if he (Anmol Bishnoi) is being brought to India, or is now in, India, the Indian government should ensure his safety. This will be our primary demand.”
He further added, “We have always respected the law and will continue to do so… He (Anmol Bishnoi) is being punished only for being Lawrence Bishnoi’s younger brother. The investigation will reveal everything.”
