BJP MP Anurag Thakur launched a sharp and detailed tirade against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during a heated debate in the Lok Sabha on Monday. Accusing Gandhi of persistently criticising the nation, its armed forces, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Thakur alleged that the Congress leader’s remarks aligned more with anti-India narratives than patriotic dissent.
In a barbed jibe, Thakur labelled Gandhi the “Leader of Opposing Bharat,” asserting that despite having been denied the post of Leader of the Opposition in two successive general elections, Gandhi had now assumed a new role defined by his constant criticism of India and its institutions. "The leader you speak of – the people of India have twice denied him enough votes to even become Leader of the Opposition. And now, having briefly held that post, he’s transformed from LoP to LoB – Leader of Opposing Bharat," Thakur declared in Parliament.
Escalating his rhetoric, Thakur accused Gandhi of amplifying hostile narratives against the country and aligning with views that bolster Pakistan’s stance. “Rahul Gandhi has become the poster boy for Pakistan’s propaganda. Congress leaders seem to be competing to outdo each other in sounding like spokespeople for Islamabad,” he charged.
In a more direct and provocative remark, Thakur said the Indian National Congress had effectively become the “Islamabad National Congress,” claiming their statements often seemed like a “cut-paste job from Pakistan’s propaganda machine.” Thakur also referenced Gandhi’s alleged reaction to Operation Sindoor — India’s retaliatory strike following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. He claimed Gandhi showed more interest in Indian military losses than in the damage inflicted on terrorist elements. “He was more curious about how many Indian jets were lost than how many terrorists were neutralised. That says it all,” he remarked.

Citing historical controversies, Thakur reminded the House of earlier instances where the Congress had allegedly shown disrespect towards the armed forces. “This is the same party that once called the Army Chief a ‘sadak ka gunda’. Now, during Operation Sindoor, they’ve been busy spreading hate-filled cartoons mocking our armed forces and the Prime Minister,” he said.
Referring to the Congress as a “Rahul-Occupied Congress,” Thakur alleged the party would go down in history for “betrayal and deceit” at a time of national crisis. He also criticised the Opposition for failing to mention a key detail of the Pahalgam attack — that the terrorists allegedly identified their victims based on religion before killing them.
Highlighting the impact of Operation Sindoor, Thakur praised the Indian military’s effectiveness, claiming Pakistan had suffered substantial infrastructure damage. “Ask Pakistan how devastating our response was — Rahim Khan Airbase is still non-functional, even after two months,” he stated. Concluding his speech with a strong nationalist message, Thakur declared, “Ab Bharat dossier nahi, dose dega” — India will no longer issue dossiers; it will now respond with decisive action.
