The Congress today strongly objected to attempts at internationalising the Kashmir issue. It reiterated its demand for a special parliament session and an all-party meeting with the Prime Minister in presence.

The party also congratulated and saluted the courage and the bravery of our defence forces, who hit the right targets of terror training camps in Pakistan from where terrorists had been launching terror attacks in India.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC office here today, senior party leader and member Congress Working Committee, Sachin Pilot referred to the announcement of ceasefire by the US President Donald Trump, before it was announced by India and Pakistan.

While asserting that Kashmir is a bilateral issue and no third-party mediation is acceptable, he asked whether the government accepted the third-party mediation, while referring to the US officials’ statement that the two countries will be meeting at a neutral venue. “There are attempts to hyphenate India and Pakistan once again”, he remarked.

He said, the announcement and its content have raised several serious questions on which the government of India needs to clarify its position and stand. HE also asked for the terms and conditions of the ceasefire that has been reached between India and Pakistan.

The senior Congress leader asked what is the guarantee that such terrorist incidents will not take place even after the ceasefire. He pointed out, the army and the political system in Pakistan does not work there like in India as they lack credibility.

He said, the questions on the credibility of the ceasefire were raised last night itself when within no time of the announcement of the ceasefire, Pakistan again started firing at Indian posts.

Pilot also referred to and reminded about the 1994 unanimous resolution of the Indian parliament seeking to take back the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. He said, time had come to revisit that unanimous resolution which had been supported by each and every party and member of the parliament that time.

The CWC member suggested that the government of India owed an answer to the 140 crore people of the country and to all political parties who had kept aside their political differences and wholeheartedly supported the government to deal with the situation.

Pilot said the country deserves to know what happened so fast within a short span of time that the US vice president first said it was none of their business and later the US President announced the ceasefire. He also referred to the IMF granting over one billion-dollar loan to Pakistan just a day before.

The senior Congress leader said, these developments have raised serious questions, which need to be answered. He said the government should convene a special session of the parliament and also hold an all-party meeting to clear all doubts and questions.
