Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to meet senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Sunday evening, with discussions expected to focus on the upcoming biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha and related organisational strategy, party sources said.
The meeting is also likely to cover the party’s strategy for elections to various State Legislative Council (Vidhan Parishad) seats.
According to sources, BJP national president J P Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other senior leaders are expected to attend the meeting.
The Election Commission of India has already announced the schedule for the biennial elections to 24 Rajya Sabha seats across ten States. These include four seats each in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Karnataka; three seats each in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan; two seats in Jharkhand; and one seat each in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Manipur.
The notification for the elections will be issued on June 1, while polling is scheduled to take place on June 18.

In addition, bypolls have been announced for one Rajya Sabha seat each in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. The poll panel has also released the schedule for elections to eight seats falling vacant in Assam and Tamil Nadu.
Sources indicated that the BJP leadership is expected to deliberate on seat allocation and candidate selection across key States, including Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, Karnataka and Mizoram.
The meeting is also likely to include discussions on candidate selection for Legislative Council elections in Bihar and Maharashtra, where the party is expected to finalise its organisational and electoral strategy ahead of the polls.
With the biennial elections approaching, the BJP leadership is expected to focus on maintaining its representation in the Upper House while also strengthening its position in States where Legislative Council elections are due.
