In light of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, authorities have imposed blackouts across several sensitive border regions to safeguard against potential aerial threats and enhance civilian safety.
In Punjab, the blackout orders cover key districts including Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Faridkot, Kapurthala, Phagwara, Ropar, and Nangal. The district administration in Gurdaspur has specified blackout hours from 9 pm to 5 am daily, with essential services such as central jails and hospitals exempted. However, even exempted buildings must keep windows closed and covered to ensure no light escapes during these hours.
In Rajasthan, blackout directives are in effect for the border regions, reflecting heightened alertness due to their proximity to the Line of Control and International Border.
In Jammu, border areas have similarly been instructed to implement blackouts, in coordination with civil defence protocols and local law enforcement.

Meanwhile, the Chandigarh Administration has announced a citywide blackout following the activation of air raid sirens. The nearby towns of Zirakpur, Mohali, and Panchkula have also experienced power cuts as part of precautionary measures.
These blackouts come in the wake of India’s precision military strikes under Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The strikes were carried out in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, where 26 civilians were killed by terrorists linked to The Resistance Front, a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The situation along the India-Pakistan border remains tense, with both nations engaged in military preparedness and intensified diplomatic communications. The blackout orders are part of broader civil defence protocols to prevent visibility to hostile aerial surveillance or targeting systems during nighttime operations.
