The Indian Armed Forces on Thursday reportedly shot down a Pakistani F-16 fighter jet amid heightened tensions following India’s precision strikes under Operation Sindoor. The Pakistani jet was intercepted and downed after it attempted to target Jammu, according to defence sources. In addition to the F-16, reports also indicate that two JF-17 fighter aircraft were brought down after Pakistan launched retaliatory actions against Indian targets.
The escalation began when Pakistan fired a volley of missiles aimed at strategic locations in and around Jammu. According to official sources, at least eight missiles were launched, targeting the Jammu Civil Airport, Samba, RS Pura, Arnia, and surrounding regions. However, India’s advanced S-400 air defence system successfully intercepted all incoming projectiles mid-air, preventing any damage or casualties.
A senior official from the Jammu administration stated, “It’s normal now. The blackout is only a precaution,” confirming that power had been cut off and a complete blackout enforced in Jammu and neighbouring areas as a safety protocol during the missile threat.

In a further escalation, a swarm drone attack was also attempted on the Jammu Airport, but it was effectively neutralised by Indian defence systems. Similar drone threats were intercepted and foiled in other locations, including Jaisalmer in Rajasthan.
According to reports, Pakistan’s most significant offensive move came when an F-16 jet took off from Sargodha and headed toward Jammu. However, Indian forces, maintaining high alert status, intercepted the jet before it could inflict any damage, shooting it down swiftly in a show of military preparedness and capability.
Authorities have urged residents in Jammu and adjacent areas to remain indoors and adhere strictly to safety instructions issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and other government agencies. India's defence forces continue to stay on maximum alert, with the situation under constant surveillance as the risk of further provocations remains high.
