As per a recent announcement dated April 9, CBSE has now decided to introduce a fresh curriculum that is based on Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The said curriculum will be applicable to students of Class 3 to 8 from the 2026-27 academic year onward. It is important to note that ‘Computational Thinking and Understanding AI’ is the major focus area of teacher training for this year.
In keeping with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework of 2023, the board's objective is to move beyond basic digital literacy. The new syllabus is designed to sharpen logical reasoning, encourage systematic problem-solving, and help children identify patterns from an early age.
In order to facilitate the integration process, some sub-themes for teachers' training have been identified by the board. The sub-themes will cover topics related to the mathematical aspects of artificial intelligence, play-to-abstract transition, and AI in practice. It is important to note that there will be an emphasis on ethical aspects, which can lead to the creation of socially responsible classrooms in the future.
While the CBSE plans to host regional workshops and orientation programmes — accessible via an online registration fee of ₹700 — it is also encouraging individual schools to take the initiative. These institutions are encouraged to hold workshops and meetings within their districts and discuss their successful practices. While the task of booking locations and inviting specialists belongs to the organisers, schools should keep detailed records of these events. This participation of teachers will help ensure that the board successfully incorporates these complex theories into their daily practice.
