The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is about to introduce one of the biggest technological leaps for the upcoming 2026 board examinations. As such, the CBSE announced that answer books for Class 12 students would be assessed using the new on-screen marking system. According to a communication from CBSE official circles sent to all affiliated board schools, the new initiative is set to bring greater efficiency, transparency, and speed to the entire process.

As such, whereas Class 12 answer books are going digital, it was stated that answer books for Class 10 students will be assessed using the physical mode.

This new move towards digital assessment aims to speed up the entire process by preventing totalling errors and minimising human involvement. The CBSE hopes that OSM will not only speed up the assessment process but also increase teacher involvement throughout India and across the globe.

The teachers can now evaluate the papers from their respective school premises without disturbing their regular teaching schedule. In addition to this, the Board believes that the move will reduce transportation times and costs, and also promote eco-friendly habits.

For this, the board of education, CBSE, has directed schools to ensure that they have the required infrastructure in place, including access to high-speed internet, power supply, and computer systems equipped with the latest software. Towards this, the board of education will be conducting multiple training sessions, dry runs, and teaching students to ensure the transition process. For Class 10 students, the exams will be held between February 17 and April 10, while the board has also planned the exams to be held between May 15 and June 1.
