Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent interview with Newsweek has evoked a strong reaction from the Congress party. Its communications in-charge, Jairam Ramesh, labelled Modi's remarks on China as "feeble". Ramesh expressed concern that such statements could embolden China's territorial claims.

Ramesh, responding to X, said, " The Prime Minister had a chance to send a powerful message to China," but unfortunately, he did not do so.

In the interview, PM Modi discussed various topics, including India's 'Viksit Bharat 2047' vision, the nation's economic growth, and the abrogation of Article 370, as well as the ongoing border issues with China and Pakistan. He emphasized the urgent need to address the border situation with China to normalize bilateral relations.

Reacting to PM Modi's comments, the Congress General Secretary criticized the Prime Minister for a weak stance, particularly regarding the 2020 clashes in the Galwan Valley, which resulted in the deaths of Indian soldiers.

About the infamous China-India border skirmishes in 2020, he said: "Prime Minister's reaction is not only disgraceful but also disrespectful to our martyrs, who made supreme sacrifice in defending our borders."

During the interview, PM Modi discussed how India, being a democratic polity, was the "natural choice" for multi-national companies as it offered an open market and bigger opportunities.

"India is globally considered the best place for manufacturing world-class goods at a competitive cost. It is a perfect destination for those who want to set up trusted and resilient supply chains," PM Modi told Newsweek when asked whether India can emerge as an "economic alternative" to China.
