Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday intensified the Opposition’s attack on the Centre over the NEET paper leak controversy, saying the party would not stop its agitation until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns and a “foolproof system” is put in place to prevent future examination leaks.

Sharing a video of students protesting in Hyderabad over the alleged NEET paper leak, Gandhi accused the Narendra Modi government of evading accountability while the future of lakhs of students remained uncertain.

“When millions of youth are on the streets, the future of 22 lakh children is at stake and the PM remains silent, then the government is not focused on responding but is busy evading,” the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said in a post on X.

“Until Dharmendra Pradhan resigns and a foolproof system is established to prevent paper leaks like NEET, we will not stop,” he added.

The Congress has stepped up its campaign against the Centre after the NEET-UG examination was cancelled following allegations of a paper leak. The issue has triggered protests in several parts of the country, with Opposition parties demanding accountability and action against those responsible.

The party also accused the Modi government of allowing a “paper leak mafia” to flourish while failing to protect students’ interests.

In a separate post, the Congress said the alleged leak had pushed the future of millions of students “into darkness” and demanded immediate action against those involved.

The remarks came as members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) staged protests in Hyderabad, raising slogans against the Centre and demanding Pradhan’s resignation.

The Congress also referred to earlier protests in Rajasthan, where Gandhi had accused BJP-led state governments of using force against demonstrators demanding action over the examination controversy.

Meanwhile, amid mounting political pressure and concerns over alleged irregularities in the examination process, National Testing Agency (NTA) Director General Abhishek Singh appeared before a Parliamentary committee to brief members on the NEET-UG paper leak controversy and measures being considered to strengthen the examination system.

Education Secretary Vineet Joshi was also present during the deliberations, which lasted several hours.

The NEET controversy has emerged as a major political flashpoint, with Opposition parties accusing the Centre of mishandling examination security and failing to ensure transparency in one of the country’s largest entrance tests.
