Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday unveiled the Air Pollution Mitigation Plan 2025, outlining a series of measures aimed at significantly reducing the capital’s air pollution levels. The plan includes the deployment of 2,300 electric auto-rickshaws at metro stations, installation of mist sprayers at 13 identified pollution hotspots, and biannual audits of Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) centres.
Speaking at the launch, Chief Minister Gupta emphasised that creating a clean and healthy Delhi is a key objective of her government. She underlined the direct health impact of air pollution on the residents of the city, saying the new plan aims to bring measurable improvements in air quality.
Titled "Shuddh Hawa Sabka Adhikar – Pradushan Par Zordar Prahar", the plan also includes a massive tree plantation drive under the campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam', with a target of planting 70 lakh saplings across the city this year. The plantation initiative, originally launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, encourages citizens to plant trees in honour of their mothers, blending environmental stewardship with a personal tribute.

As part of stricter vehicular pollution control, Gupta announced that an audit of PUCC centres will be conducted every six months to ensure compliance and prevent malpractices. She also revealed that the city would soon implement a Smart Intelligent Traffic System to ease traffic congestion, which is a known contributor to urban air pollution.
In a significant regulatory step, the chief minister declared that only BS-VI compliant, CNG, and electric vehicles will be allowed to enter Delhi starting November 1. This move is expected to curtail the influx of older, more polluting vehicles into the capital.
Further, she noted that construction sites larger than 500 square metres will be required to register on the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) portal, ensuring better monitoring of dust emissions from construction activity. With these measures, the Delhi government aims to build momentum in the fight against pollution, blending enforcement with citizen participation and technological integration to ensure cleaner air for all.
