At the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus depot in Nand Nagri, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta laid the cornerstone for a brand-new, fully automated vehicle testing station on Thursday. Gupta reaffirmed her government's dedication to urban growth and environmental sustainability, promising to clean the Yamuna River, cut pollution, and provide basic civic facilities to all citizens of the nation's capital.
The foundation-laying ceremony was also attended by Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh and North-East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari. Addressing the gathering, CM Gupta made a key announcement aimed at empowering women commuters. “We have prepared to introduce ‘Pink Cards’ in place of ‘Pink Tickets’ for our sisters in Delhi. We will reduce pollution, clean the Yamuna, develop infrastructure, and ensure all necessary facilities for the people of Delhi,” she said.

The automated vehicle testing station is designed to handle fitness assessments for up to 72,000 vehicles each year. The facility will provide transparent and trustworthy vehicle fitness checks using only sophisticated, computerised systems, with no human involvement, according to the officials. This is expected to improve the efficiency of the inspection process and remove any chance of human error or malpractice.

According to Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, the project is consistent with the Delhi government's overarching objective of modernising the city's transport infrastructure while upholding environmental responsibility. According to him, the new centre will promote green mobility, increase road safety, and aid in the development of a more sustainable public transport system.

Officials claim that Delhi's pollution will be significantly reduced by the facility's state-of-the-art machinery for assessing the mechanical condition and emissions of automobiles. The program supports ongoing government efforts to address the capital's ongoing air quality issues.
The Delhi government has launched a number of green initiatives in recent months, including the introduction of electric buses, the phase-out of older, polluting vehicles, and the digitisation of various transport services. The proposed testing facility at Nand Nagri is a key component of this comprehensive plan to promote eco-friendly transport and more intelligent mobility options throughout the city. The project's completion in the coming months is expected to mark another important milestone in Delhi's shift to cleaner, safer, and more advanced urban infrastructure.
