Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra on Monday visited Naini Lake, which is maintained by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC), and announced a series of ambitious initiatives aimed at its restoration and enhancement, according to an official statement.

During his visit, the minister directed officials to prepare a comprehensive plan to upgrade the aesthetic appeal of the lake and transform it into a vibrant tourist attraction.

To encourage cultural engagement, Mishra instructed the DTTDC and the Delhi Tourism Department to collaborate on a proposal to host an annual "Naini Lake Festival" during the winter season. This festival is expected to celebrate the cultural richness of Delhi and attract more visitors to the lake. As part of the development plan, the existing cafeteria will be revamped to enhance services and generate higher revenue for the tourism department.

Among the main attractions in the proposed makeover are the repair and revival of the lake’s renowned musical dancing fountain and the installation of an advanced laser show system on the island situated at the lake’s center. This laser show is expected to provide an immersive visual experience for visitors.

Two new LED-lit fountains are also in the pipeline, designed to shoot water up to 20 feet in height and spread 30 feet wide, significantly boosting the visual grandeur of the lake area. To further modernise the space, the government plans to install a large LED screen on the island. This screen will display real-time updates, public service messages, and commercial advertisements.

The minister also proposed installing a pneumatic system in the lake to generate artificial waves. This initiative will serve a dual purpose: improving oxygenation in the water and elevating the lake's visual charm. To improve recreational activities, the plan includes introducing LED-lit shikara boats and small, scenic cafes with seating capacities of 15–20 people. These will be ideal for family outings, casual get-togethers, and small celebrations.

Additionally, visitors can look forward to the arrival of racing boats, water scooters, and gondola rides—modeled on the iconic boats of Venice. To ensure safety, the entire lake complex will be monitored with CCTV surveillance.

Infrastructure upgrades are also part of the initiative. The existing water pump and power factor panel will be repaired, which could lead to a 10–20 percent reduction in electricity costs. Landscaping improvements, including the planting of palm trees and ornamental plants, will be undertaken. The lake will also be enriched with ducks, swans, and other ornamental birds to create a more lively and picturesque ecosystem.

Depending on public demand, especially during school summer vacations, the lake’s boating hours may be extended until 9 PM to accommodate evening visitors. Minister Mishra emphasised that these efforts are aimed at providing citizens with a refreshing and enjoyable experience while also fostering ecological sustainability and boosting tourism in Delhi.
