The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids linked to Nitin Gohal in Punjab’s Kharar stretched beyond 48 hours, with investigators grilling the alleged liaison agent for nearly 40 hours in connection with a major land fraud case. The raids, which began on Thursday, continued into Saturday morning with ED officials still present at the property.
While the search at Gohal’s flat in Western Towers, Kharar, concluded in the early hours of Saturday, operations at other locations remained ongoing even after 48 hours.
Eyewitnesses said ED officials, accompanied by CRPF personnel, left Gohal’s ninth-floor flat with certain documents in three vehicles.
Sources said Gohal was not seen stepping out of the house during the entire operation and appeared shaken and drained after prolonged questioning.
The flat came under the scanner after a video surfaced on social media showing two bags being thrown out of the ninth-floor window as officials entered the building.
According to statements, cash worth Rs 21 lakh was recovered from the two seized bags.
The allegations against Gohal stem from a case where he is accused of assisting builders who defaulted on payments to the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) while allegedly providing them political protection.
Fresh reports indicate that ED raids are also underway at the Phase-4 residence of another alleged liaison agent, Pritpal Singh Dhindsa.
Several locations in Mohali and Chandigarh linked to firms such as the Suntec City project, Ajay Sehgal, ABS Townships, Altus Builders, Dhir Constructions and their associates are being searched under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
