The Delhi government will explore setting up a structured mechanism for battery lifecycle management as part of its expanding electric mobility ecosystem, Transport Minister Pankaj Singh said on Friday.

At a stakeholders’ conference organised to gather inputs on the draft electric vehicle (EV) policy, industry participants also recommended aligning the EV Policy with Delhi’s Solar Policy to strengthen sustainability outcomes.

“We are working towards making Delhi the ‘EV Capital’ of the country. Once implemented, the Delhi EV Policy 2026 will boost the adoption of electric vehicles along with the supporting infrastructure across the capital,” Singh said.

He added that the shift to electric mobility would play a key role in reducing pollution levels and improving the overall quality of life for residents. “The consultation aimed to gather evidence-based suggestions from industry stakeholders to help refine and finalise the draft EV Policy 2026,” Singh noted.

Officials said the discussion brought together major players from across the electric mobility value chain to deliberate on actionable recommendations for strengthening the policy framework.

“Participants suggested engaging with Delhi Transco Limited (DTL) to support EV adoption and accelerate the development of a robust public and private charging network,” an official said.

The Draft Delhi EV Policy 2026, unveiled earlier this month, lays out a comprehensive roadmap to scale up electric mobility in the national capital. “Stakeholders also underlined the importance of residential charging infrastructure, particularly through the involvement of Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), to address parking challenges and improve last-mile access,” the government said in a statement.

The conference also focused on expanding charging infrastructure across segments, including public, residential, commercial, and fleet categories.

Delhi currently has about 9,000 charging points, with another 4,000–5,000 in the pipeline. The government aims to increase this number to between 32,000 and 36,000 charging points in the coming years.

Experts also stressed the need to map existing infrastructure in coordination with original equipment manufacturers and service operators to ensure efficient deployment. The event featured dedicated sessions involving manufacturers of two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers, along with power distribution companies and other stakeholders in the EV ecosystem.
