The Opposition has fully backed the government for "any action", condemning the Pahalgam massacre that has cost 26 lives and unleashed one of the worst face-offs with Pakistan.

At an all-party meeting held on Thursday, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and intelligence officials briefed political leaders about the attack. After the meeting, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, said, “All political parties have strongly condemned the attack and the Opposition is fully supporting the government to take any action.”

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge added, “We want peace to return to Jammu and Kashmir as soon as possible.” Rahul Gandhi is expected to visit Anantnag in Kashmir tomorrow, where several of the injured are being treated in the district hospital.

Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandopadhyay also said, “We stand with the Centre in the fight against terrorism. The entire country must fight this together. All party leaders have sent a message to the Prime Minister.” He also called for a meeting with PM Narendra Modi.

According to sources, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that senior officials from the Intelligence Bureau and the government explained to MPs how the terror attack happened and where the security failure occurred.

The attack took place on Tuesday afternoon when terrorists, believed to be from a group linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, opened fire on a group of tourists in the Baisaran meadows of Pahalgam — often called “mini Switzerland.” Many people were injured.

Among the 26 killed, one was from Nepal, and the rest were from 14 different Indian states.

In response, the government has taken several steps, including indefinitely suspending the Indus Water Treaty, closing the Attari border, and cancelling visas for all Pakistani nationals in India, including those on medical visas. There is also speculation that India may consider military action, like the surgical and air strikes carried out after the Uri and Pulwama attacks.

These moves show that the government is taking a strong stand following the tragic attack.
