External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a bilateral meeting on Thursday with Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov in New Delhi, ahead of the fourth edition of the India-Central Asia Dialogue. The two leaders met at Hyderabad House and discussed ways to enhance cooperation between India and Turkmenistan across a range of sectors.


During the meeting, Jaishankar expressed appreciation for Meredov’s unequivocal condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. He described the talks as warm and constructive, with a focus on deepening collaboration in the fields of trade, investment, connectivity, healthcare, and energy. The discussions underscored both countries’ commitment to expanding their strategic partnership.


Jaishankar shared details of the meeting on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where he also posted photographs from the interaction. In his post, he wrote, “Delighted to meet FM Rashid Meredov of Turkmenistan. A warm exchange on deepening our cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, connectivity, health and energy sectors. Welcome his strong condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”


Meredov is currently in India to participate in the Central Asia Dialogue, a regional forum aimed at strengthening India’s engagement with Central Asian nations. The fourth edition of the dialogue is being hosted in New Delhi, with foreign ministers from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan in attendance. The conclave seeks to promote a closer, broader, and more robust partnership between India and the Central Asian region, as highlighted by the Ministry of External Affairs.
