Twenty-four candidates secured a perfect score of 100 in the Joint Entrance Examination (Main), according to results released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday.

Rajasthan recorded the highest number of toppers in the engineering entrance exam. Among the perfect scorers, one is a woman candidate.

However, the results of 110 candidates have been withheld by the NTA for using unfair means, including submission of forged documents.

Over 9.92 lakh candidates appeared for the second session of this crucial examination, which serves as a gateway for admission to engineering colleges across the country.

Explaining the evaluation process, a senior official of the NTA said, “NTA scores are not the same as the percentage of marks obtained but normalised scores.”

“NTA scores are normalised scores across multi-session papers and are based on the relative performance of all those who appeared for the examination in one session,” the official said, adding that “the marks obtained are converted into a scale ranging from 100 to 0 for each session of examinees.”

Candidates qualifying in JEE (Main) Paper 1 and Paper 2 will be eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced), which determines admission to the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

The NTA is responsible for conducting the exam in a transparent and standardised manner, using normalisation techniques to account for variation in difficulty levels across different sessions.

The results mark a significant milestone for lakhs of engineering aspirants and pave the way for the next phase of India’s most competitive entrance process — JEE (Advanced), scheduled to be held later this year.
