Kirti Vardhan Singh, India’s Minister of State for External Affairs and Environment, Forest and Climate Change, attended the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit on behalf of India on Tuesday.

The important meeting, co-hosted by US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, brought together many world leaders to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.

The summit took place after major developments in Gaza, including the release of all remaining hostages and the start of a ceasefire in the region. These steps created new hope for peace and encouraged fresh diplomatic efforts, supporting President Trump’s goal of lasting peace in the Middle East.

The leaders discussed ways to work together to maintain stability, stressing that dialogue is key to solving conflicts. India, which has long supported peaceful solutions in the Middle East, repeated its commitment to resolving issues through diplomacy. The Ministry of External Affairs stated, “India stands for peace in the Middle East and resolution of issues through dialogue and diplomacy.”

India openly supported Trump’s Gaza peace plan and thanked Egypt and Qatar for their important roles in helping free the hostages and moving the peace process forward. This participation reflects India’s long-standing support for a negotiated two-state solution between Israel and Palestine, a position it has held for many years. The ministry added, “We will support all efforts towards a lasting peace in the region,” emphasising India’s active role in global peacekeeping efforts.

The summit is a significant step forward after months of tension, with the ceasefire offering hope for reduced conflict. President Trump called the summit a “historic opportunity” to build on recent progress, while President Al-Sisi highlighted Egypt’s efforts to mediate and bring parties together.
