Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host Navinchandra Ramgoolam, the visiting Prime Minister of Mauritius, in Varanasi on Thursday for a summit that seeks to deepen the strategic partnership between the two nations.
The Ministry of External Affairs described the meeting in the ancient city as a reaffirmation of the “enduring civilisational connect, spiritual bonds and deep-rooted people-to-people ties that have shaped the special and unique relationship between India and Mauritius.”
Ramgoolam, who arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday for his state visit, will be in India till September 16. His discussions with Modi are expected to cover the full spectrum of cooperation, with emphasis on development partnership and capacity building.
According to the official statement, “They will also discuss opportunities for expanding collaboration in health, education, science and technology, energy, infrastructure as well as in emerging domains such as renewable energy, digital public infrastructure and the blue economy.”
The Ministry added that the Varanasi meeting will build on “the positive momentum generated by Modi's state visit to Mauritius in March 2025, during which the two leaders elevated the bilateral relationship to an enhanced strategic partnership.”
