The Madhya Pradesh government reported that 252 people have lost their lives so far during the ongoing monsoon season. In addition to the human fatalities, rain-related incidents have also led to the deaths of 432 animals and 1,200 poultry birds across the state.
Throughout Madhya Pradesh, rescue and relief efforts have been vigorously carried out, leading to the safe evacuation of 3,628 people from vulnerable and flood-affected areas. The district collectors gave updates on the situation on the ground during a video conference that Chief Minister Mohan Yadav chaired to discuss these efforts.
The Chief Minister was told by officials that 53 relief camps located in different districts are currently providing shelter to 3,065 people. The displaced population is receiving basic supplies from these camps, including clothing, food, drinking water, and medications. The government has approved Rs 3,600 crore through its relief fund to support the state's efforts for rehabilitation and disaster response. For immediate aid, local administrations have already received Rs 28.49 crore of this total.
In high-risk areas, specialised disaster response teams have been positioned strategically. In order to respond quickly to emergencies, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are positioned at other vulnerable locations throughout the state, while National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) units have been stationed in Bhopal, Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Dhar.

Out of the 252 fatalities, 47 were attributed to general rain-related incidents, 132 to drowning in swollen rivers and streams, 60 to lightning strikes, and 13 to the collapse of houses, boundary walls, or trees during the heavy rains, according to official data.
The infrastructure of the state has been severely damaged by the extreme weather. A total of 2,333 homes were partially damaged, and 128 homes were totally destroyed. With 254 rural roads reportedly impacted, the intense rains have also seriously damaged road networks.
This season, Madhya Pradesh has received 711.3 mm of rainfall, which is 59 per cent more than the typical amount. Rescue personnel have carried out 432 operations so far, which also led to the saving of 94 animals. A total of 40 districts in the state have experienced above-average rainfall during this monsoon.
