Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee JKPCC president Tariq Hamid Karra said on Thursday that the alliance between the congress and the national conference has disrupted the Bharatiya Janata party’s plans in the region.
Karra said, “The BJP was thinking of an easy victory in the upcoming assembly as the parties in Kashmir were fragmented however with the NC-Congress alliance they are now propping up the independent candidates.”
Additionally, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has also ruled out any possibility of alliance with BJP in upcoming assembly elections.
While addressing the issue of the independent candidates taking part in the elections, Karra suggested that this was a deliberate move aimed at weakening the political influence of Kashmiris since 2014”. Additionally, there is nothing new here, the BJP has done this during Lok Sabha elections as well.
He added, “They seek to disempower Kashmiris by fragmenting the vote, which is why we see leaders emerging from every corner of the street.”
He also warned that the forthcoming assembly elections are critical and unlike any previous ones. He requested to make informed decisions when they head to polling booths.
The voters need to have a clear mind and think that their vote will have a long , long-lasting impact on the future course of politics in J&K and will also have far-reaching consequences for the region.
"If people lack judgement in electing the government this time, they will face repercussions for the next 100 years," he told reporters after filing his nomination papers for the Central Shalteng constituency.
Responding to BJP leader Ram Madhav’s claim that political parties in Kashmir are fielding militants and ex-militants, Karra said, “Madhav is unaware of his own party’s history. He said that his own party had recruited ex-militants a few years ago.”
