In a dramatic development in the investigation into the deadly car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort on November 10, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a medical student from North Dinajpur on Friday. The blast has claimed the lives of 13 people.
The arrested youth, identified as Nishar Alam, also known as Janisaar Alam alias Jigar, is an MBBS graduate from Al-Falah University, Haryana, who had recently returned to his ancestral village, Konal, which falls under the Dalkhola police station, for a relative’s wedding.
Though his family has long been settled in Ludhiana, Punjab, Nishar was visiting the village with his mother and sister when the arrest took place.
According to investigating sources, Nishar’s name surfaced after the probe into the car explosion began, prompting the NIA to contact his father, Towhid Alam, in Ludhiana. Once they came to know that Nishar was in North Dinajpur, a special team moved swiftly.

On Thursday night, a surveillance operation began in the Suryapur Bazaar area, following mobile tower location signals being traced to Nishar. By Friday morning, the NIA had intercepted him near the Suryapur High School.
He was first taken to Islampur, and later transferred to Siliguri for a detailed interrogation.
Nishar reportedly managed to make two calls to his mother – one immediately after his arrest, and another before being moved to Siliguri.
The arrest has left Konal village deeply unsettled. Nishar’s family maintains his innocence, insisting he had always been focused on studies. “He is a calm, polite boy. He never bothered about anything except his studies. We cannot believe this,” said his uncle, Abul Kashem.
