The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday praised farmers for their vital role in the construction of the Ganga Expressway, highlighting that more than one lakh cultivators contributed land to ensure the project’s timely completion.

“Over one lakh farmers from 12 districts gave their land for this expressway. I express my gratitude to all the ‘annadata’ farmers whose support turned this project into reality,” Adityanath said while addressing a gathering ahead of the inauguration.

At an event held in Hardoi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 594-kilometre access-controlled expressway, which links Meerut to Prayagraj and passes through 12 districts.

Adityanath noted that the foundation stone for the project was laid by the prime minister in December 2021, adding that the expressway has now been completed within the stipulated timeline, reflecting the government’s strong push for infrastructure development.

He said the expressway would not only improve transportation but also drive economic growth, industrial expansion and job creation across the state.
According to the chief minister, approximately 18,000 acres of land were acquired from farmers for the project, while nearly 7,000 acres have been earmarked for industrial clusters and logistics hubs along the corridor.

Emphasising its wider impact, Adityanath said the expressway would act as a backbone for Uttar Pradesh’s economy and accelerate the vision of a ‘Developed India’ by enhancing connectivity, strengthening agricultural marketing and promoting regional development.

Governor Anandiben Patel, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, Union minister and state BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary, along with other dignitaries, were present at the event.

Officials said the 594-kilometre Ganga Expressway, the longest in Uttar Pradesh, is expected to significantly cut travel time between the western and eastern regions of the state while enabling faster movement of goods and services.
