Parliament Monsoon Session Day 3: 6 Bills listed

As the political stalemate on opposition’s demand for a debate on Bihar’s voter list revision continued, the government listed six bills in Wednesday’s agenda

News Arena Network - New Delhi - UPDATED: July 23, 2025, 03:23 PM - 2 min read

The Parliament's Monsoon Session is currently on, and will end on August 21, 2025

Two days after India’s Vice President and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankhar, resigned and the stand-off between the Opposition and the government continued over the latter’s demand for a debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar, the government listed six bills on Wednesday.

The bills include the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025, which is aimed at promoting sports and providing facilities and welfare measures for sports persons, and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

The time allotted for discussions on Operation Sindoor will be extended by nine hours, it was reported, and the debate is expected to remain the focus even as the House experiences ruckus over multiple contentious issues.

Congress Member of Parliament and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi address both houses and the nation on urgent issues, including the Pahalgam terror attack and the ongoing SIR exercise being carried out by the Election Commission in Bihar ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

"Election Commission is doing the work of (vote-bandi) banning votes in Bihar. It can only be done with the consent of PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. We want PM Modi to participate in the discussions of SIR, and he should inform us when the discussions on Operation Sindoor and SIR will take place," Gogoi said.

Besides the deadlock on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) electoral rolls in Bihar, 145 Lok Sabha members and 63 Opposition MPs in Rajya Sabha had submitted a memorandum to remove Justice Yashwant Verma under Articles 124, 217, and 218 of the Constitution.

The Monsoon session will comprise a total of 21 sittings, spread over 32 days, and will conclude on August 21. Both the Houses will be adjourned on August 12, 2025, and will reassemble on Monday, August 18, to facilitate Independence Day celebrations.

Other goods on the government’s agenda that will be tabled include The Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025, that will replace an ordinance; The Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025; The Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025; The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025; The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation Amendment Bill, 2025; The Geoheritage Sites and Geo-relics (Preservation and Maintenance) Bill, 2025.
