In his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared Operation Sindoor the 'new normal' for India's military strategy. The operation, launched in response to the Pahalgam massacre, was hailed as a powerful retaliation that dealt a blow to enemies 'beyond their imaginations.'
Dressed in a saffron turban, Nehru jacket, and a white safa with saffron and green borders, the Prime Minister spoke passionately about the April 22 killings in Pahalgam. He recalled the brutality of the attack, where fathers were killed in front of their children, and affirmed that he had given the armed forces 'a free hand' to respond immediately.
"Today, from the ramparts of the Red Fort, I have the opportunity to salute the brave soldiers of Operation Sindoor," PM Modi stated, praising them for delivering a fitting response and demolishing terror launch pads in Pakistan.
He emphasised that while the nation has faced terrorism for decades, a new standard has been established. "If the enemy tries any misadventure, our military will decide the time and place of response," he asserted.
Modi also addressed the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, warning, "Blood and water cannot flow together." In addition, the Prime Minister offered condolences to the families affected by recent natural disasters across several states and assured them of the central government's full support.
In a dramatic aerial tribute, two Mi-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force showered flower petals over the Red Fort as the Prime Minister hoisted the national flag. One helicopter flew the Tricolour, while the other carried a flag depicting Operation Sindoor, symbolising the nation’s gratitude to its Armed Forces.
The celebrations drew thousands of attendees, including dignitaries, schoolchildren, and citizens from across the country. Security was tight, and the atmosphere was charged with patriotic pride as cultural performances and military displays unfolded throughout the morning.
