PM Modi had laid the foundation stone for Ram Mandir in August 2020.

The grand Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is fully prepared for a momentous occasion as Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives today to perform the sacred ceremony known as Dhwaj Arohan, the ceremonial hoisting of the temple flag.

In a deeply symbolic ritual, the Prime Minister will personally hoist a majestic 22-foot religious flag atop the temple’s towering shikhar, which has been crafted in the classical North Indian Nagara architectural style. The right-angled triangular flag, dyed in vibrant saffron, carries the radiant emblem of the Sun, signifying eternal energy, divine brilliance, virtue, and enlightenment, qualities that are eternally associated with Lord Ram himself.

Adding to its sanctity, the flag is also inscribed with the sacred syllable “Om”. The Prime Minister will lead the rituals in the august presence of revered sadhus, distinguished dignitaries, and members of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.

The ceremony has been deliberately scheduled on a day of profound spiritual convergence, coinciding with Vivah Panchami, the auspicious Muhurat that commemorates the divine wedding of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. Remarkably, this very date also marks the martyrdom day of the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, who, in the 17th century, meditated uninterrupted for 48 hours in Ayodhya, further enriching the spiritual significance of the occasion, as highlighted in an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

The elaborate rituals will be conducted by 108 learnt Acharyas drawn from Ayodhya, Kashi, and various traditions of South India, all under the scholarly guidance of the renowned Kashi pandit Ganeshwar Shastri. To maintain the solemnity and security of the event, the temple premises will remain accessible only to invited guests holding QR-coded passes until 2:30 p.m.

The entire city of Ayodhya has been meticulously beautified for this historic visit: roads have been thoroughly cleaned, fresh signage installed, and sanitation teams have undertaken extensive maintenance work to ensure the city shines in welcome. The Trust has extended invitations to nearly six thousand guests who will witness this once-in-a-lifetime moment.

This visit continues Prime Minister Modi’s deep personal association with the Ram Mandir. He had earlier presided over the Pran Pratishtha, the consecration of the idol of Ram Lalla, on January 22, 2024, and had laid the foundation stone for the temple itself in August 2020, almost a year after the Supreme Court’s historic verdict awarded the 2.77-acre disputed site for the construction of the grand Ram Mandir.

Today’s flag-hoisting ceremony thus adds yet another glorious chapter to both the temple’s journey and the Prime Minister’s enduring commitment to this sacred landmark of faith and national resurgence.
