Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the people of Jharkhand on the state’s 25th foundation day on Saturday, saying the state is a “glorious land enriched with vibrant tribal culture”.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote: “Greetings to the people of Jharkhand, a glorious land enriched with vibrant tribal culture, on its foundation day.”
Recalling the legacy of tribal rights leader and freedom fighter, Birsa Munda, PM Modi noted that the history of the land was filled with inspiring tales of courage, struggle and dignity.
He also extended his good wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of all families in the state on the occasion.
Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar in 2000. The state’s foundation day on November 15 also coincides with the birth anniversary of tribal icon Birsa Munda. Born in 1875 in present-day Jharkhand, he led, ‘Ulgulan’, a tribal uprising against the British in the late 19th century, and died at the age of 25 while in custody.
Meanwhile, others who paid tribute to the freedom fighter include Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, and other Deputy chief ministers.

In a post on X in Hindi, Adityanath said, “On the occasion of ‘Janjatiye Gaurav Diwas’, we pay our deepest respects to the Dharti Aba Bhagwan Birsa Munda, who dedicated his life for the honor and glory of his motherland. His every call echoed with freedom, his every step ablaze with self-respect. He gave a new definition to the awakening of the forests and the devotion of the people to their motherland. Jai Johar!”
Deputy Chief Minister, Keshav Prasad Maurya, wrote in a post on X in Hindi: “Tributes to the great freedom fighter of the country, Bhagwan Birsa Munda Ji. The entire nation is reverently remembering his incomparable contribution in protecting the self-respect of the motherland. His struggle and sacrifice against the injustice of foreign rule will continue to inspire every generation.”
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak wrote in his post on X: “Salutation to Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the protector and promoter of tribal culture and identity, an immortal warrior of the Indian freedom struggle, an extraordinary social reformer, a great revolutionary, and a leader of the masses, on his birth anniversary.”
