Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hailed Operation Sindoor as a swift and decisive response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, declaring that the Indian armed forces avenged the killings in just 22 minutes.
Speaking in Parliament during a debate on Operation Sindoor, PM Modi recounted how India struck back with precision on the intervening night of May 6 and 7, delivering a powerful message to Pakistan. “India took action exactly as planned. Pakistan was unable to retaliate. Our armed forces avenged the April 22 attack in just 22 minutes with surgical precision,” he said. The April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, had claimed the lives of 26 civilians. PM Modi emphasised that the swift and targeted response by Indian forces sent a strong signal to those who sought to threaten national security.
Praising the valour and strategic capability of the armed forces, PM Modi said the operation marked a historic moment, noting that while India and Pakistan have clashed before, this was the first time India managed to strike what were considered “impenetrable” targets inside Pakistan. “Our forces destroyed terror hideouts with unmatched precision,” he stated. “We also demonstrated that India will not succumb to nuclear blackmail. This operation proved our resolve.”

In a striking remark, the Prime Minister said India had effectively crippled Pakistan’s airbases, placing many of them in what he described as “ICUs”. “India showcased its technological superiority in these strikes. We targeted key Pakistani assets and airbases. Today, several of their airbases are lying in ICUs,” he added, using a metaphor to describe the extent of damage inflicted.
As part of Operation Sindoor, India launched air strikes on multiple Pakistani airbases on May 10, including the strategically important Murid and Nur Khan airfields. These strikes were carried out in response to Pakistan’s earlier attempt to target Indian airbases. Satellite imagery later confirmed the impact of India’s strikes, revealing damage at airbases such as Nur Khan (Chaklala, Rawalpindi), Murid (Chakwal), and Rafiqui (located in Shorkot, Jhang district). These developments were widely reported in the days following the operation.
Operation Sindoor was a direct and forceful response to the Pahalgam terror attack and was aimed at dismantling terror infrastructure across the border. PM Modi’s remarks in Parliament served both as a tribute to the armed forces and a reaffirmation of India’s firm stance on national security.
