Goa awaits as PM Modi set to unveil 77-feet Lord Ram statue.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Friday unveil a magnificent 77-feet bronze statue of Lord Ram, described by organisers as the world’s tallest depiction of the deity, at the historic Shree Samsthan Gokarn Jeevottam Mutt in South Goa’s Partagal, Canacona. The imposing structure has been crafted by the renowned sculptor Padma Bhushan Ram V. Sutar, the same artist who created the iconic Statue of Unity in Gujarat.

The prime minister is scheduled to arrive at the mutt at 3:45 pm, with a special helipad constructed within the mutt premises for his helicopter landing. Upon arrival, he will first visit the ancient temple inside the complex before proceeding to formally unveil the statue and address a large public gathering.

The ceremony will be attended by several dignitaries, including Goa Governor P. S. Sreedharan Pillai (represented in protocol by Ashok Gajapathi Raju in some announcements), Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Union Minister of State Shripad Naik, and the entire state cabinet, making it one of the largest and most high-profile events the mutt has hosted in recent years.

The new statue, standing at an impressive 77 feet, is poised to claim the title of the tallest statue of Lord Ram anywhere in the world, further enhancing the spiritual and cultural importance of the Gokarn Jeevottam Mutt. Public Works Department minister Digambar Kamat has stated that the installation will serve as a landmark attraction while preserving and amplifying the site’s centuries-old sanctity.

The unveiling forms part of an eleven-day grand celebration from November 27 to December 7 marking the 550th anniversary of the mutt’s living spiritual tradition. Although the physical premises at Partagal were established 370 years ago, the lineage and practices of the mutt trace their origins back over five and a half centuries, making it one of the most revered centres of the Smartism tradition in the country.

Organisers anticipate an influx of 7,000 to 10,000 devotees and visitors each day throughout the festivities. To accommodate the occasion, the entire Mutt complex has undergone extensive renovation and beautification, with modern facilities added without compromising the serene and sacred character of the site.

The refurbished premises now present a harmonious blend of tradition and contemporary aesthetics, ready to welcome thousands who will gather to witness the historic unveiling and participate in the 550-year commemorative programmes.
