The Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, virtually inaugurated a new weekly train service from Gwalior to Bengaluru on Friday, describing it as a significant step towards enhancing connectivity and quickening development throughout Madhya Pradesh. Important cities like Guna, Bhopal, and other regions of the state are anticipated to benefit from the new train.

Vaishnaw emphasised during the launch event that the new train is another significant step in the vast expansion of rail infrastructure under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's direction. "Everyone in Madhya Pradesh, including Gwalior, Guna, and Bhopal, will benefit from this train. The prime minister has taken a number of steps to advance the state's development," he stated.

"In the last 11 years, 2,651 kilometres of new railway tracks have been laid in Madhya Pradesh—more than the total railway network of countries like Denmark," Vaishnaw said, highlighting the scope of railway expansion. Additionally, he stated that 80 stations—including Gwalior—are in varying stages of development. The Railway Minister went on to say that the state has been approved for new projects totalling ₹24,000 crore and that a Maha Kumbh will be held in order to prepare for the next Kumbh Mela. To further improve regional connectivity, plans are also in motion to launch a new train service between Gwalior and Agra.

The new weekly service will significantly cut down on travel time to Bengaluru, according to Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who personally flagged off the train from Gwalior Railway Station and rode it. “Earlier, people had to travel to Kota or Bhopal, spending nearly 36 hours to reach Bengaluru. Now, with this direct service, the journey will only take 30 hours,” he explained.

Scindia underlined the importance of this service for students, job seekers, and families whose children are studying or working in Bengaluru. “Gwalior has now been directly connected to Bengaluru. It’s a huge step in making travel more accessible and affordable,” he said.

He also praised the ongoing development in Gwalior under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Prime Minister Modi, citing progress in railway infrastructure and new train services connecting Gwalior to different parts of the country. “A MEMU train from Gwalior to Kolaras is already operational, and it will soon be extended to Sheopur, with future plans to connect it to Kota,” Scindia added. The virtual flag-off was attended by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who led the event on the ground at the Gwalior Railway Station.
