After issuing an orange alert, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) upgraded its warning to a red alert on Tuesday for a severe heatwave sweeping across Delhi. The red alert will remain in place for the next three days, as temperatures soar to nearly 45 degrees Celsius in several parts of the national capital.

On Monday, Delhi recorded temperatures close to 45 degrees Celsius for the second time this month, intensifying concerns about the ongoing heatwave. According to official data, Safdarjung reported 43.4°C, Palam recorded 44.3°C, Lodi Road saw 43.3°C, Ridge touched 44.9°C, and Aya Nagar registered the highest at 45.3°C. These readings represent a 1 to 2-degree rise compared to Sunday’s temperatures.

The IMD had earlier predicted that maximum temperatures in the city would remain in the 44–45 degrees Celsius range until Thursday. The department also warned that residents should not expect much relief during the evenings, as temperatures will remain uncomfortably high.

However, some respite is expected over the weekend, as the IMD has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall following the ongoing heatwave.
