Saif Ali Khan sustained multiple stab wounds, including injuries to his neck and near his spine.

Saif Ali Khan is recovering well, doctors treating him said.

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed multiple times at his home in Mumbai. The 54-year-old actor suffered serious injuries, including stab wounds to his neck and near his spine, when an intruder broke into his Bandra apartment early Thursday morning.

A suspect, identified as Aakash Kailash Kannojia, 31, has been detained at Durg railway station in Chhattisgarh. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) reported that he was caught on the Mumbai-Howrah Jnaneswari Express based on information from the Mumbai Police.

The suspect deboarded the train at Durg station and was immediately taken into custody. He was travelling without a ticket and gave conflicting statements about his destination, first mentioning Nagpur and later Bilaspur.

RPF officials confirmed that the Mumbai Police had shared details, including the suspect's photo and location, which helped in his detention. The suspect is now being questioned and was shown to Mumbai Police officials via video call. A police team from Mumbai is traveling to Durg to confirm if he is indeed the attacker.

Saif Ali Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital after the attack, where he underwent emergency surgery. Doctors removed a 2.5-inch blade fragment from his spine during a five-hour procedure. The actor, who was stabbed six times, is now recovering, according to medical staff.

The suspect closely resembles the man seen in CCTV footage taken from Saif Ali Khan’s building. The footage showed an intruder wearing a red scarf and carrying a backpack, entering the building twice—once to access the apartment and later to escape.

The attacker was also spotted at Bandra and Dadar railway stations, suggesting he fled Mumbai by train.

Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif Ali Khan's wife, provided her statement to the police. She recalled witnessing the attack and described the intruder as aggressive. “The attacker stabbed Saif repeatedly but fled without taking any valuables,” she said. Kareena also revealed that she went to her sister Karisma Kapoor’s house after the incident because she was shaken and terrified.

Initially, another man, a carpenter named Waris Ali Salmani, was detained for questioning. He had recently worked at Saif Ali Khan’s residence but was later released when officials confirmed he had no connection to the attack.

Authorities have formed over 30 teams to track the attacker. Maharashtra's Minister of State for Home (Urban), Yogesh Kadam, stated that the motive appears to be robbery and ruled out any involvement of underworld gangs.

Saif Ali Khan attacked in his own home has left his family and fans in shock, but the swift actions of the police offer hope for a quick resolution.
