The grand Maha Kumbh 2025 kicked off in Prayagraj on Monday, drawing millions of devotees to take a holy dip at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers.

This spiritual gathering, held once in 144 years, began with the ‘Pavitra Snan’ on Paush Purnima and will continue until February 26, with significant bathing dates such as Makar Sankranti (January 14) and Maha Shivaratri (February 26).

Adding vibrancy to the event, a seer made a unique entry, riding into the tent city on a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Another seer, known as ‘Splendor Baba,’ completed a 14-day journey from Gujarat on a three-wheeler motorcycle, while ‘Chabhi Wale Baba’ carried a 20 kg key as part of his distinct persona.

Unique personalities draw attention

Several seers stood out for their unusual practices. Chhotu Baba, a 57-year-old monk from Assam's Kamakhya Peeth, has not bathed in 32 years due to an unfulfilled wish. Standing at 3 feet 8 inches, he expressed joy at being part of the Maha Kumbh.

Meanwhile, ‘Chai Wale Baba,’ a monk and former tea seller, has dedicated 40 years to providing free coaching for civil service aspirants. Remarkably, he survives solely on 10 cups of tea a day and communicates via gestures and WhatsApp.

‘Rabri Baba’ arrived in a 50-year-old Ambassador car, his only worldly possession, while another seer, known for keeping his hand raised for nine years, showcased nails longer than his fingers.

Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Aruna Giri, or ‘Environment Baba,’ attended the festival with a message of tree planting.

South Korean YouTubers, Japanese pilgrims, and European tourists have also flocked to Prayagraj, eager to experience the spiritual essence of the event.

Brazilian yoga practitioner Shiku, attending the Maha Kumbh for the first time, described it as a journey to India’s spiritual heart. French journalist Melanie called it an "unanticipated thrill," while two sisters from Jharkhand, Gita and Lalita, tied themselves together with red ribbons to avoid getting separated in the massive crowd.
