At least 11 people, including seven children, were killed early on Wednesday when a passenger pick-up van collided with a trailer truck in Rajasthan’s Dausa district, officials said.
The victims were returning to their village in Etah, Uttar Pradesh, after visiting the Khatu Shyam and Salasar Balaji temples when the accident took place on the Manoharpur highway at around 4–5 am, Dausa Superintendent of Police Sagar told. The dead included seven children and four women, he said.
According to police, 20 people were travelling in the pick-up when it rammed into a stationary truck parked in the service lane of the highway. Eight others sustained injuries, with one in critical condition.
Earlier, Dausa District Collector Devendra Kumar said three injured people were receiving treatment at a local hospital, while nine had been referred for further medical care. He initially reported that 10 people had died in the crash.
“According to initial reports, 10 people have died in an accident near Bapi. Nine people have been referred for treatment, and three are being treated in the District Hospital... The accident occurred between a passenger pick-up and a trailer truck,” Kumar said. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed authorities to ensure swift and adequate treatment for the injured.
“The news of loss of life in a horrific road accident in Dausa is extremely tragic. The district administration has been directed to ensure prompt and proper treatment for the injured. May God grant a place at His divine feet to the departed souls and provide speedy recovery to the injured,” Sharma wrote on X.
