The police probe in the Lohagad murder case has found that accused Siya Goyal was found to have allegedly married her boyfriend Chetan Chaudhary despite being engaged to Ketan Agarwal.
It is learnt that Siya married Chaudhary secretly at a local registrar's office four months ago. According to a media report, two of Siya’s college friends had signed as witnesses. They are also being probed.
Investigators are now looking into these claims and verifying if a marriage certificate exists under the Special Marriage Act to confirm if Siya and her boyfriend were officially married. If the marriage is established, Siya’s engagement to Agarwal will be invalid.
The police are also looking into Chaudhary's bank records to check if any middleman was paid to skip the mandatory public notice to rush through the secret marriage. Police investigators suspect that the murder was planned after Agarwal’s parents asked Siya for her documents, wanting to make arrangements for a destination wedding in Udaipur.
Agarwal, a Pune-based realtor, met Siya through family and got engaged in February. A hotel was reportedly booked in Udaipur for a lavish wedding in November.
Siya and Chaudhary were arrested days after Agarwal fell to death from a cliff at the Lohagad fort on June 18. Chaudhary, they alleged, was seen following Siya and Agarwal to execute the murder plan. Both Siya and Chaudhary remain in judicial custody.
