On Thursday, the children of actor Karisma Kapoor, Samaira and Kiaan Raj, accused their stepmother, Priya Kapur, of being “greedy” and likened her to a “Cinderella stepmother” during a hearing before the Delhi High Court.
The remarks were made by their counsel before Justice Jyoti Singh while challenging the purported will of their late father, Sunjay Kapur, which involves assets reportedly worth Rs 30,000 crore. The reference to a “Cinderella stepmother” alluded to the 1950 Walt Disney film Cinderella, where the protagonist is mistreated by her stepmother, who prioritises her own daughters.
On September 26, the court had permitted Priya Kapur, Sunjay Kapur’s wife, to submit a list of his assets in a sealed cover and advised all parties involved in the property dispute to refrain from sharing details with the media.
During Thursday’s hearing, the counsel for Samaira and Kiaan Raj accused Priya of being “greedy,” alleging that she secured 60 per cent of the assets and approximately 12 per cent for her son. “She is also getting 75 per cent of the trust,” the counsel claimed, further alleging that Priya was involved in forgery and that there was “enough evidence” to warrant a probe.
The counsel sought a status quo on the movement of Sunjay Kapur’s assets, arguing, “She is a nominee, and she holds the assets. How far the forgery of documents goes will have to be unravelled, and there is enough evidence to conduct a probe.” The counsel described Priya as being in a “glaring hurry” to limit the children’s shares, reiterating the “Cinderella stepmother” comparison.

Questioning the authenticity of the will, the counsel argued that it was unlikely Sunjay Kapur drafted it without consulting an advocate, stating, “It was not possible that he would not have consulted an advocate before creating a will and bequeathing such a large estate.” The counsel further noted that the executor of the will received it only one day before its reading and claimed that the will was modified while Sunjay Kapur was on a holiday with his son, suggesting that those responsible for the alleged forgery were rewarded.
The Delhi High Court scheduled the next hearing for October 13. On September 10, the court had directed Priya Kapur to provide a list of Sunjay Kapur’s assets. Priya informed the court that she and her son had already received Rs 1,900 crore from the family trust.
