In a horrific case of alleged medical negligence at Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital in Hazaribagh, a pregnant woman has died after reportedly falling from a bed inside the operating theatre (OT).
The deceased has been identified as Chandni Kumari. Her death triggered massive protests and vandalism by agitated relatives and local residents on the hospital premises.
According to reports, Chandni was admitted to the hospital on Sunday night after she went into labour. During the delivery procedure inside the OT, she allegedly fell from the bed and sustained severe injuries.
Family members rushed her to a private hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Relatives have accused the hospital staff of gross negligence, claiming that no doctor was present in the operating theatre at the time of the incident and that the delivery was being handled solely by nurses.

“Had a doctor been present, both Chandni and her unborn child could have been saved,” one of the relatives said.
However, Civil Surgeon Dr Ashok Kumar denied the allegations and blamed the patient’s family for acting irresponsibly. He stated that the family took the woman to a private hospital without consulting the doctors on duty.
“Her life might have been saved if she had not been moved from the government hospital,” he said.
Following the incident, tensions flared within the hospital compound. The family reportedly did not allow a post-mortem examination and performed the last rites at the Khirgawan cremation ground.
Meanwhile, hospital authorities have strengthened security on the premises as demands for a formal investigation into the incident grow stronger.
